Discharge
"Beginning of the End"
7", Thunk Records, 2006
Discharge has been one of my all time favorite bands for quite a long time. Their history is long, their influence is vast and their impact on my life has been huge. Their combination of hardcore, punk & metallic riffs into something original, their pure energy and bleak outlook of the world situation is legendary. When I saw this latest 7" in the racks of Double Decker records in Allentown, I picked the record up and put it down 3 times before deciding to make the purchase. The first thing I noticed was that Cal was not on vocals. I always loved his vocals. When I dropped the needle on this record the first thing I said was, this is Broken Bones! Then I realized, no it's not! It's The Varukers! Well, if you are a fan of this style of music, you know that Broken Bones, Discharge and The Varukers are usually bands that if you like one you like them all, or at least part of their musical output. This 3 song 7" including "Beginning of the End", "Blood of the Innocent" and "They Lie, You Die" sounds more like the Varukers than Discharge or Broken Bones, mostly because Rat from the Varukers is doing the vocal duties. So, yes I love the record, but really, why not call it something Varukercharge!!!
