Occult
"Elegy For The Weak"
CD, Karmageddon/Candlelight, August 2004
Holland based Occult have been around for nearly 10 years. I have been a fan of Destruction's "Infernal Overkill" LP for nearly 20 years. "Elegy For the Weak" is the first CD I have heard that comes close to the magnitude of that Destruction classic. While combining the powerful thrash and similar vocal growl of Destruction, "Elegy For the Weak" does not sound dated. The heavy breakdowns (recalling Slayer), modern percussion and fierce death metal influences make this one hell of a powerful release. Occult have produced a CD worthy of playing at full volume, no matter the repercussions. One of my favorite metal releases in a long time.
