Pig Destroyer

"Terrifyer"

CD/audio DVD, Relapse, October 2004

I imagine if there was an aural interpretation of what was going on inside Henry's ("Portrait of A Serial Killer") mind on a daily basis it would be the sound of Pig Destroyer. So much noise going on inside his head, he couldn't help appear quiet, because if/when the noise was unleashed, well you know. But I digress (I love that movie). These three Virginians create great big guitar riffs, pounding drums (Brian is one of my favorite drummers) and horrifying screaming (no bassist needed). This is disturbing music. Fast music with great mini breakdowns that bring to mind a musical equivalent to the Readers Digest version of Slayer. The vocals are not Slayer-like, as they are completely unintelligible shredding vents. The lyrics are printed here, but really, I don't have an interest in reading them. When I'm listening to this disc the very last thing I feel like doing is reading. This disc is exhausting. Suggested use: not to exceed 4 tracks in any one sitting. "Intense" and "Brutal" seem like weak terms when describing Pig Destroyer.
