“Alpha Motherf***ers”

CD, Hopeless Records

This is a tribute to one of the greatest punk bands of the last bunch of years. A punk band that had the drive, energy and the attitude that made you wanna flip someone off (originally what punk was about, I suppose). And they did it tunefully. The Norwegian gods of let it all hang out punk rock. Here we have 26 bands giving their tribute. The packaging is detailed, with cool liner notes from each of the bands. Nashville Pussy “Age of Pamparius”, Supersuckers “Get It On”, Queens of the Stone Age “Back To Dungaree High”, Peepshows “Just Flesh”, Dwarves “Hobbit Motherf’ers”, Puffball “Zonked Out on Hashish” and Zeke “Midnight Nambla” all contribute high quality versions of classic Turbonegro songs. Those bands fit the influence of Turbonegro and are pretty well known in punk circles. There were some pleasant surprises for me (either I didn’t know the particular band could rock so hard or that the bands even existed anymore) including Scared of Chaka, Therapy?, Hot Water Music, ADZ and Ratos De Porao. There of course is the opportunity on a compilation such as this to give lots of exposure to bands that would never get this kind of exposure. I think out of the 26 songs, only two of them do I skip over. Sweden is nicely represented. Satyricon was the biggest surprise for me. I had never heard of them. They are a black metal band and add a real good twist to the song they contributed. This is an amazing tribute to an amazing band. If you are unaware of Turbonegro and the Turbojugend, then I suggest you go out and at least purchase “Apocalypse Dudes” and “Ass Cobra” immediately.
