“Death To Hardcore/Death To Reagan”

LP Mike Fitzgerald Records 2003

This comp features the locals Ultimate Warriors, Carpenter Ant and Gatecrashers. This guy Mike, had a hell of a time putting this record together. It is actually a combination of two projects he was working on, and both weren’t going so well, so he combined them. You’ll read the full story in the liner notes. The project with the cover songs of Reagan era hardcore made me most happy, obviously since I was a youth during that time. As with most comps, there is a variety of success and failure (not many) by the bands. Buy it for the covers and the local support (all the locals are successes). The Ultimate Warriors cover of Capitol Punishment’s “El Salvador” is worth the price of admission alone. Full Speed Ahead’s version of “Jodie Fosters Army” (JFA) and "What Happens Next’s version of “Reaganomics” (DRI) kick ass. Total Fury sounds like early (first 7”) Agnostic Front. Crucial Unit’s version of Youth Brigade’s “Moral Majority” also kicks ass. Carpenter Ant contributes their “Mosh Olympics 56” which is one of their best songs, perfect example of the aggro-chaos they create. The Gatecrashers are an amazing band and they contribute “I Saw It” (Deep Wound). Nice.
