"Shielded By Death Volume 3: Exit Stage West"
CD, Dionysus Records, March 2004
This is a vintage collection of CT and MA punk and hardcore bands from the late 70s and early/mid 80s. Fans of other compilations like "Killed By Death" will eat this up. This compilation actually includes Cancerous Growth ("Number"), who was one of the first hardcore bands I set up a show for in the Lehigh Valley (with the help of Scott Squat). My first show was AOD & Bedlam in case you wanted to know. My favorite Seizure song "Pain is Pain is Pain" and favorite Psycho song "Trix Are For Kids" are also included. I think I may have helped set up Psycho with a show as well, hell it might have been the same show as Cancerous Growth, but that was a long time ago and I'm sure my memory is a bit distorted. I can really relate to this disc. It definitely has that early punk feel in recording quality. Some tracks are a bit generic, some classic, but all a great listen. It is an enjoyable way to get a bit of a history lesson. This compilation has also managed to introduce me to some great punk bands like Last Supper (who remind me of GG Allin's early melodic punk), Thrills, The Vertebrates and Stratford Survivors. There is also a track by straight edge legends Wide Awake ("Wide Awake"). A nicely done compilation!
