“Too Legit For The Pit”

CD, Radical Records

Never expected to hear a cover of NWA’s “Express Yourself” complete with “whoa-a-ohhh” ala 7 Seconds or Bouncing Souls (as performed by Stretch Armstrong). This is a real cool comp, as it takes a lot of different sounds to the originals. The selections are quality tracks. For example, Skarhead has the knowledge to do “PSK What Does It Mean”, giving Philly’s Schooly D much deserved credit, and providing a great new version. Throwdown’s version of “Baby Got Back” (Sir Mixalot) is insane, a total rockin’ harsh, metal, groove. Hoods cruise through “Mama Said Knock You Out” (LL Cool J) and  F.O. The Smack Magnet blazes through “The Humpty Dance” (Digital Underground) like they were the Varukers or GBH. The overall quality makes this worthwhile.
